Brock Purdy injury: What status means for Week 5 vs. Rams

Brock Purdy is dealing with a toe injury for Week 5. We break down what it means for fantasy football decisions.

The San Francisco 49ers head down the road Thursday night to take on the Los Angeles Rams in a battle of NFC West rivals. There are currently three 3-1 teams in the West and the Rams and 49ers are two of them. This game is already important in the early going. San Francisco comes into this game as 6.5-point underdogs. A big reason that number is probably higher than we’d usually see is due to the multiple injuries to their main offensive pieces.

All of Brock Purdy, Ricky Pearsall, and Jauan Jennings are dealing with injuries, while George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk remain out. Purdy, who we’ll discuss here, has been dealing with a toe injury that kept him out Weeks 2 and 3. He returned in Week 4 to take on the Jaguars and completed 22-of-38 passes for 309 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, and one lost fumble, while rushing twice for 13 yards.

The numbers weren’t great, and he didn’t play well, but he did play a full game and put up okay fantasy stats due to volume. Unfortunately, he re-injured his toe. If he can’t go against the Rams on TNF, backup Mac Jones would once again take over as the lead.

Brock Purdy injury updates

Purdy has officially been ruled out for Thursday’s matchup against the Rams, marking the third game that he will miss in the last four weeks.

Fantasy football analysis

The Rams defense has been good against the pass so far, as they have allowed just five touchdown passes to three interceptions and rank 12th best in fantasy points allowed to the position. Their adjusted sack rate is fourth-best and their QB hit percentage ranks third-best. They did get beat by Jalen Hurts in the second half of their loss to the Eagles, but they are the Super Bowl champs and at home. I’ll give the Rams a pass on that one.

With Purdy sidelined once again, the aforementioned Mac Jones will once again get the nod and he already two QB wins under his belt. He had a good fantasy day against the poor Saints defense and then had a poor fantasy game in a one-point win over the Cardinals. This week, the matchup gets tougher and I wouldn’t expect Jones to even have much value in 2QB leagues with so many key offensive pieces missing.
