Julian Nagelsmann had already announced Nico Schlotterbeck’s return to the DFB team prior to the nominations. “He’ll definitely be there, and he’s earnt it. He’s doing well, he has no problems. He makes an outstanding contribution to the structure of the game, and he has a strong will to win. We now have a left foot at the back again, which is good for us. In his last international game against Italy, he was the best player on the pitch, and now he may well be again. We’re very happy that he’s back.” During the announcement on Thursday, Nagelsmann emphasised the importance of the Borussian: “Now that Toni Rüdiger will not be playing, it’s extremely important that Nico Schlotterbeck is back.”

Schlotterbeck will not be travelling alone from Dortmund to the team headquarters in Herzogenaurach on Monday. As in the previous international games in September, Borussians Karim Adeyemi, Waldemar Anton and Maximilian Beier are also part of the DFB squad. Felix Nmecha will also be returning to the national team. The Borussian was last nominated by Nagelsmann in June.

Germany will first be playing Luxembourg on Friday 10th October (20:45 CEST), followed by Northern Ireland on Monday 13th October (20:45 CEST).
