When will Aaron Jones be back? Vikings' RB depth chart with Jordan Mason awaits return

Minnesota is waiting for its star RB and its young QB to be back.

The Minnesota Vikings' starting lineup certainly looks different than it did in Week 1.

In addition to a host of offensive line injuries, QB J.J. McCarthy and RB Aaron Jones both are out.

There are able replacements at both spots for Minnesota with Carson Wentz and Jordan Mason.

But the Jones absence in particular is one that forces the Vikings to go away from their plans for a two-headed backfield monster. Zavier Scott is a nice fill-in as a change-of-pace back, but it's not the same as a Mason/Jones combination.

When will Aaron Jones be back?

The most likely return point for Aaron Jones is Week 8.

The problem is that he was placed on Injured Reserve, which means he has to miss four games with his hamstring injury that he sustained in Week 2.

He missed Week 3 and Week 4 already. He'll miss Week 5, but then in Week 6, the Vikings have a bye, so that won't count. Jones will then sit out Week 7.

He's first eligible to return in Week 8 after those four missed games.

There are no guarantees that that'll be the week, but until proven otherwise, it seems as logical a spot as any to circle on the calendar.

Jones had a career-high in touches last season, so the Vikings will likely take it easy with him as he ramps back up off the injury. But he'll certainly be a key contributor to get back at some point midseason.
