At a time when Juventus can’t afford to lose many more players to injury, one of their more versatile defenders is now out for a while.
While it’s certainly not going to be as long as the injury layoff he just came back from, Juventus defender Juan Cabal is looking at a new extended stay on the sidelines that will keep him out for the entire month of October, if not more.
That is the result of having to come off after just 15 minutes in Juve’s 2-2 draw with Villarreal on Wednesday, as Cabal was clearly in pain — and quite emotional as he made his way slowly around the field on the way back to the bench — thanks to what appeared to be a hamstring injury. Following tests at J Medical on Thursday morning, Juventus released the following update on Cabal’s health and the fact that we probably won’t be seeing him for a bit of time:
Juventus Men’s First Team player Juan Cabal, who came off during the first half of Wednesday night’s Champions League match against Villarreal, underwent diagnostic tests this morning at J|Medical.
Those tests revealed a moderate-grade injury to the biceps femoris muscle in his right thigh.
He will undergo further tests in two weeks to more precisely determine the recovery timeline.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, recovery time for the injury that Cabal has suffered is at least six weeks, if not longer. That obviously has him out through all of October and into November, with the post-November international break slate of games as the potential landing spot for his return. The re-evaluation that Cabal will undergo in a couple of weeks will be important when it comes to figuring out his exact recovery time.
Either way, Juve manager Igor Tudor is down one left option both at the back and at the wingback position in which things were already a bit limited in terms of options besides Andrea Cambiaso and Joao Mario.
Wednesday night’s matchup against Villarreal was the first start Cabal has made since return from his torn ACL injury that he suffered while on international duty with Colombia last season. His other two appearances had come off the bench, the most recent coming against Atalanta last weekend when he scored the game-tying goal at the Allianz Stadium. It was his first goal since moving to Italy three years ago.
