This Wednesday night (October 1) will be remembered as a historic moment for Canadian and world football. Midfielder Thomas Müller netted the 300th goal of his career in Vancouver Whitecaps’ 4-2 victory over Vancouver FC in the Canadian Championship 2025 final, played in front of a packed BC Place in Vancouver.

The milestone established Müller as the most decorated German player of all time, with 35 career titles, surpassing fellow countryman Toni Kroos, who has 34. To make the night even more special, the triumph also secured the Whitecaps a place in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup, the premier continental tournament featuring the top clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Historic goal and decisive performance

Wearing his iconic No. 13 jersey, Müller calmly converted a penalty in the second half, scoring his landmark 300th career goal and sending the crowd into a frenzy. Earlier in the match, he had already provided an assist for Ali Ahmed, who opened the scoring just five minutes into the game—once again proving his ability to shine in decisive moments.

After the final whistle, Müller emphasized the value of the collective achievement over his personal milestone:

“Today, I feel more about winning the Canadian Championship and not my personal collection of trophies. It’s a nice number, but in the end, it’s the feeling with the boys, with the crowds, and that’s what I’m looking for and what’s enjoyable for me. It was another good step in a decisive game, but at the moment, I just want to keep it short and go back to the boys to celebrate.”

Whitecaps claim fourth consecutive Canadian Championship

With the victory, the Vancouver Whitecaps lifted their fourth consecutive Canadian Championship trophy, further solidifying their dominance in Canadian football. The achievement confirms the club’s remarkable run of form, as they continue to build momentum not only domestically but also looking ahead to the international stage.
