What happened to Mac Jones? 49ers QB goes down in pain on TNF originally appeared on The Sporting News

The San Francisco 49ers were rolling on Thursday Night Football with Mac Jones cooking the Los Angeles Rams' defense, leading Kyle Shanahan's team to a 17-7 lead at half time.

Jones continued that form into the third quarter with a 13-play drive, but facing a third-and-goal, Jones was hit by a Rams defender and was left in a crumpled heap clutching at his left leg.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Jones was dealing with a PCL sprain which is the reason for the brace and the former New England Patriot looked to be in a lot of pain as the 49ers had to settle for a field goal to go up 20-7.

Luckily for the 49ers, during the commercial break, Jones got up and jogged off the field under his own power, so that is a positive as San Francisco is already without Brock Purdy and the thought of having Jones out too is nightmare fuel.

When Jones left the field due to his injury, he was 18 of 28 for 214 yards and two touchdowns while having a 111.3 rating as he has come in and played superbly well in Shanahan's scheme.

The offense was averaging 5.4 yards per play against the Rams as the 49ers looked as good as they have all season, but the big news was Jones, who was left clutching at his knee after a seemingly innocuous incident that left him in a heap on the SoFi Stadium turf.

The 49ers have been dealt with a host of injuries this season, and maybe we might add Jones to the list despite him looking ready to come back into the game with a little over 3 minutes left in the third quarter.
