Chase is clearly missing his best friend on the team.
Any Bengals fan can tell Ja’Marr Chase is frustrated that Joe Burrow is injured. He wasn’t just frustrated during the game Monday night in Denver about the way the Bengals’ offense was performing. Chase hasn’t been the same since Burrow went down in Week 2.
When asked on Thursday if he wants Burrow on the sideline on Sunday when the Bengals take on the Detroit Lions, Chase was emphatic with his response.
This can be interpreted in multiple ways. Chase clearly thinks there is still something for this team to play for this season, so he wants Burrow to be able to come back. Does Chase think Burrow is closer to coming back than maybe others think? Who knows, and that’s not suggesting he could be.
Chase only has one touchdown through four games this season. That’s not the first time he’s only had that number of touchdowns through four games. He didn’t have any through four games in 2023 before exploding for three in Week 5 at the Arizona Cardinals.
The Bengals’ All-Pro wide receiver has 26 receptions for 264 yards and a touchdown through four games this season. Those aren’t bad numbers. But 14 of those receptions came in Week 2 against the Jaguars. That means Chase only has 12 receptions in the other three games.
As bad as the last two games have been for the Bengals, they are still currently in the No. 6 seed in the AFC. There is still a lot to play for. Chase knows that. Hopefully, the rest of the team will play like that on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
