Barcelona set date for official announcement of Frenkie de Jong’s renewal – report

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are expected to announce the contract renewal of midfielder Frenkie de Jong on October 15. 

It is to be noted that the 28-year-old has been finalising the details of a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2029. 

As such, Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, confirmed in an interview earlier this week that the agreement is “close.” 

Notably, de Jong had already approved the key aspects of the contract, including the fixed salary and the three-year extension. 

What remains now are minor details that both sides usually leave to the final stage, ensuring everything is correct before signing on paper.

Signing date set after international break

The Dutch midfielder’s importance to Barcelona has been clear for some time. The new deal confirms the club’s vision of building around him, with Deco describing him as “a key player for the project.”

The final phase of negotiations focuses mainly on variable bonuses, with confidence high on both sides. 

While nothing has been officially signed yet, the club has already earmarked October 15 as the ideal date for finalising the deal.

De Jong is expected to join the Netherlands national team for matches against Malta on October 9 and Finland on October 12. 

Barcelona have everything set

He will return to Barcelona on October 13, allowing him to train on October 14. This timing sets the stage for a formal contract signing on October 15, alongside President Joan Laporta.

Once the agreement is signed, Barcelona plan to make an official announcement. The club will provide full media coverage. 

For the Catalan side, this contract signing would be a statement of intent. By securing de Jong until 2029, Barcelona are sending a clear signal that he remains central to their long-term plans.
