Roll Tide Wire staff predictions for SEC games in Week 6

The SEC's Week 6 slate features a Top 25 showdown in Tuscaloosa, as well as notable games taking place in Gainesville and College Station.

Despite seven teams from the conference on a bye, Week 6 is still shaping up to be a big one for the SEC overall.

This Saturday, the SEC is home to one ranked matchup in Alabama vs. Vanderbilt, which is also the Week 6 location for ESPN's "College GameDay."

However, there are also other intriguing matchups set to take place such as Texas A&M vs. Mississippi State, along with Texas traveling to Florida in a high-profile quarterback matchup between Arch Manning and DJ Lagway. Along with those matchups, one SEC team will also play a nonconference opponent in Week 6.

Here is a look at who every member of the Roll Tide Wire staff has coming away with a victory in SEC Week 6.

Kentucky Wildcats at Georgia Bulldogs

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 4 at 12 p.m. ET on ABC
  • Predictions
    • Matt Melton: Kentucky 13, Georgia 48
    • Steve Holley: Kentucky 10, Georgia 34
    • Rob King: Kentucky 17, Georgia 42

Georgia suffered their first home loss since 2019 last week to Alabama, and will now look to get back in the victory column Saturday afternoon in Athens against Kentucky. The Wildcats are winless in SEC action so far this season, and a road win in Athens against what will be a motivated Georgia team is certainly a tall task.

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN
  • Predictions
    • Matt Melton: Texas 26, Florida 24
    • Steve Holley: Texas 24, Florida 16
    • Rob King: Texas 31, Florida 17

A game that is certain to garner national attention, Texas opens SEC play this Saturday on the road in Gainesville against a Florida team coming off a bye. The Longhorns will be favored going into Gainesville, but is a game that Florida could very easily pull off the home upset.

Vanderbilt Commodores at Alabama Crimson Tide

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC
  • Predictions
    • Matt Melton: Vanderbilt 20, Alabama 36
    • Steve Holley: Vanderbilt 23, Alabama 30
    • Rob King: Vanderbilt 27, Alabama 42

The SEC's game of the week comes in Tuscaloosa when Alabama hosts Vanderbilt in a Top 25 showdown. Alabama is the favorite at home here, but will certainly have to be careful against a talented Vanderbilt team to avoid a repeat of last season's upset.

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Kent State Golden Flashes

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. ET on SEC Network
  • Predictions
    • Matt Melton: Oklahoma 48, Kent State 6
    • Steve Holley: Oklahoma 49, Kent State 7
    • Rob King: Oklahoma 53, Kent State 18

The lone SEC team playing a nonconference opponent this week is Oklahoma at home against Kent State. Expect a big win for Sooners, even without starting quarterback John Mateer.

Mississippi State Bulldogs at Texas A&M Aggies

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network
  • Predictions
    • Matt Melton: Mississippi State 20, Texas A&M 33
    • Steve Holley: Mississippi State 17, Texas A&M 31
    • Rob King: Mississippi State 28, Texas A&M 38

The SEC's final game this Saturday takes place in College Station when Texas A&M hosts Mississippi State. Texas A&M will be favored here against the Bulldogs, but this is a tricky game against a Mississippi State team that nearly upset Tennessee last week.
