Kevin Gausman is making tomorrow’s start (we knew that).
Bo Bichette won’t be on the roster unless he can play every day. They don’t want him for a Kirk Gibson moment. Personally, I love a Kirk Gibson moment. I’m old enough to remember that moment. It was special. And the Jays are going to have someone on that roster that isn’t going to play (or only get the odd at bat), why not let it be Bo.
Apparently, the team is deciding if they go with 14 position players and 12 pitchers or 13 and 13. If it is me, 14 and 12, I think the extra bat is more important than the last arm in the pen. Earl Weaver used to say he’d rather have that bat that could win him a game than that pitcher that he would only use in a game that’s already lost.
I’d be thinking of a bat that you could pinch hit in the ninth, who just might hit the ball out of the park. They will have lots of pitchers who could give you a couple of innings at the end of a game that we’ve already lost.
Schneider says they are still deciding on the starting pitchers after Gausman, which I find hard to believe. I’m sure they have decided, they just don’t want to tell us yet.
In other news, John Gibbons has been let go by the Mets (along with the rest of the coaching staff). I don’t suppose enough time has passed for the Jays to hire him as a bench coach (or for him to accept the job).
Ian Hunter, at Blue Jays Nation, asks about who should throw out the ceremonial at the games in Toronto. Jose Bautista would be a fine choice. Joe Carter. Of course, my first pick would have been Roy Halladay.
John Gibbons? Cito? Buck? Pat Gillick?
Who would you pick? Maybe we can have a poll after other make suggestions.
