BYU had three turnovers but overcame those in a 38-24 win over West Virginia Friday night in Provo.

The Cougars were never really threatened but turnovers in West Virginia territory and some sloppy play kept BYU from running away with the game. Two BYU fumbles set up two West Virginia touchdown drives of 3 yards and 22 yards.

Despite some of the sloppy play, BYU’s offense rolled up 516 yards behind 351 passing yards from Bear Bachmeier. Bear took advantage of a West Virginia defense keen on stopping the run and Bear completed 18/25 passes, many of which resulted in chunk plays. Chase Roberts had 4 receptions for 161 yards and Parker Kingston caught 4 passes for 111 yards. LJ Martin paced BYU’s rushing attack with 90 yards and two touchdowns.

Jack Kelly’s injury is also a main storyline leaving the game. BYU’s star linebacker suffered a shoulder or arm injury in the first quarter and remained on the sideline in a sling. His status moving forward is unknown, but a long-term absence would undoubtedly be a big blow to BYU’s defense. Isaiah Glasker also came into the game banged up and didn’t play the second half, but he should be good to go moving forward.

BYU moves to 5-0 on the season and hits the road for a game next Saturday at Arizona.
