Manchester City have confirmed that Savinho has signed a new long-term deal that will keep the Brazilian forward at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.
The 21-year-old attracted strong interest from Tottenham in the recent transfer window and was open to moving to north London amid uncertainties over his long-term future under Pep Guardiola.
After joining City from CFG-owned side ESTAC Troyes last summer, the winger amassed over 3,000 first-team minutes in his debut campaign in England as he adapted to life at Manchester City over the course of the club’s most challenging season under Guardiola.
Tottenham registered an intent to add Savinho to their attacking ranks in the final month of the summer transfer window, with Manchester City holding out for over £70 million to sanction a potential sale for the wide attacker.
However, Manchester City chief executive officer Ferran Soriano is believed to have personally blocked a transfer to Tottenham for Savinho, who spent the beginning of the 2025-26 season out injured as uncertainty loomed over his club future.
Tottenham were keen to replace departed club legend Son Heung-Min with the Manchester City forward, who registered three goals and 13 assists in 48 appearances in all competitions in his first season at the Etihad Stadium.
Officials at the Etihad Stadium are understood to have blocked a transfer for Savinho this summer with a belief that the winger has too high a ceiling to allow the Brazil international to leave just 12 months into his arrival to Manchester City.
Savinho scored on his second start of the season against Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup third-round win over Huddersfield Town last week, with Manchester City well and truly moving on from their slugging start to the season.
After announcing contract renewals for Rico Lewis, Ruben Dias and Nico O’Reilly already since the start of the season, Manchester City have confirmed that Savinho has committed his long-term future to the Etihad Stadium by putting pen to paper and signing a fresh deal that will run until the end of the 2030-31 season.
Upon signing a new deal, Savinho said: “It’s a very special feeling to know Pep (Guardiola) and Manchester City have placed such faith in me. It really means a lot to me and my family,” as quoted by Manchester City’s official website.
“I feel I have so much improving to do – I am still young and very hungry to keep learning. But I know working with Pep (Guardiola) and his staff will help me to keep developing.”
Manchester City director of football Hugo Viana added: “Savinho is still very young but he has already demonstrated that he possesses the qualities needed to become a truly outstanding player.
“He has so many excellent attributes. His potential really is limitless. He has superb natural ability, works incredibly hard day in, day out, and he is humble. He is very eager to keep learning and help the team, and his ambition is to be one of the best attacking players in the game.
“I have no doubt that by continuing to work with Pep (Guardiola) and his coaching team, Savinho will go on to be a key part of our squad for many years to come.”
Guardiola will be delighted with another of his side’s key talents for the future penning new deals as club officials work behind the scenes to build a new-look, winning side at the Etihad Stadium after a sobering, underwhelming 2024/25 season.
