Wisconsin will start Hunter Simmons at quarterback against Michigan instead of Danny O'Neil while Billy Edwards Jr. remains out.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Wisconsin Badgers will start Southern Illinois transfer Hunter Simmons at quarterback against No. 20 Michigan instead of Danny O'Neil, head coach Luke Fickell said in his pregame radio interview.
Maryland transfer Billy Edwards Jr. remains out with a knee sprain. Edwards took six snaps in UW's Week 4 game against Maryland, but he could not finish the game. He missed the entirety of UW's games against Middle Tennessee and Alabama.
O'Neil, a San Diego State transfer, has started and taken the lion's share of snaps in Edwards' place and completed 70.6% of his passes with five touchdowns and five interceptions.
"Obviously Danny O'Neil will be ready and have some role as well," Fickell said in the pregame interview.
Simmons played in five games and made three starts for Southern Illinois last season before suffering a season-ending injury. He completed 57% of his passes for 852 yards and three touchdowns.
