Borussia Dortmund drew 1-1 with RB Leipzig as they missed a chance to dethrone Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga for at least a few hours on Saturday.

Leipzig led from Christoph Baumgartner in the seventh minute but Dortmund hit back from Yan Couto's deflected shot in the 23rd.

Each team had chances to win it but eventually both sides' run of four straight league victories came to an end.

Dortmund missed going top for at least three hours as they are one point behind Bayern who visit Eintracht Frankfurt in the late game.

But Dortmund, who visit Bayern in their next match on October 18 after the international break, remain unbeaten in all competitions this season, and in 14 Bundesliga matches since their last defeat, in March in Leipzig.

Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen defeated Union Berlin 2-0 from Ernest Poku and Christian Kofane as they rose into at least temporary fourth with a second straight victory and remain unbeaten under new coach Kasper Hjulmand.

Augsburg ended a run of four straight defeats with an emphatic 3-1 over Wolfsburg from Noahkai Banks, Mert Kömür and Robin Fellhauer. Werder Bremen beat St Pauli 1-0 from Samuel Mbangula's second-minute strike.

The Sunday fixtures are VfB Stuttgart v Heidenheim, SV Hamburg v Mainz and bottom club Borussia Mönchengladbach v Freiburg. Cologne won 1-0 at Hoffenheim on Friday.
