Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has voiced his growing frustration at what he described as an “unlucky” start to the Premier League season, after two deflected goals condemned his side to a 2-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Farke admitted his side’s performances have deserved far more than the results suggest. “We’ve not won one point so far being lucky, but we’ve lost at least six points through being unlucky,” he said. “After this game, I would normally be disappointed even with a draw, not even to speak about a loss.”

It was a familiar story for Leeds, who have now seen crucial points slip away through misfortune on multiple occasions. A freak own goal denied them a draw at Fulham, a stoppage-time equaliser robbed them of victory against Bournemouth, and this time two deflections sealed their fate at Spurs, despite Farke’s side registering more possession, shots, and expected goals in North London.

Leeds’ return to the Premier League has drawn praise for its attacking intent and tactical structure, but Farke knows style must soon translate into substance. “We were the better side in all aspects,” he added. “I can’t pray for results, what I can do is deliver performances.” To stay in the Premier League, however, those performances must quickly start yielding tangible results.
