Liverpool’s priorities in next summer’s transfer window would appear to include replacements for both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

The legendary duo are out of contract in 2027 - but it would make sense for successors to be brought to the club while they are still in place.

This step would ensure that Liverpool would not have to rush into any decisions over replacements - and help the new faces settle in alongside Salah and Van Dijk.

Liverpool have been linked with several centre-backs of late - including Marc Guehi and Ronald Araujo. It seems likely that sporting director Richard Hughes will sanction a new player in that position over the coming transfer windows.

Olise emerges as clear choice

And a clear picture is also emerging up front - where Salah has reigned supreme since 2017. The Egyptian King will be turning 35 by the time his current contract ends and there are already signs that Salah’s level has dropped from his peak.

One player above all others now stands out as a potential successor to Salah - and he could be signed in summer 2026.

Michael Olise, 23, has been a revelation since signing for Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace back in 2024. He had an outstanding breakthrough season - leading FC Hollywood to the Bundesliga title - and has started this campaign in sensational form too.

Bayern are said to be keen on signing Olise to a new contract - with the French international’s current deal expiring in 2029.

Liverpool have targetted Olise

Premier League clubs are lining up to bring Olise back to England - who is said to be willing to have a crack at succeeding at one of the top flight’s major clubs.

A report in Fichajes suggests that Liverpool are prepared to go as high as €150m to land Olise - which would eclipse the fee paid to Newcastle for Alexander Isak.

A report in Football Insider, meanwhile, claims: “Liverpool have targeted him as a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.”

Salah replacement required

There is no question that a replacement for Salah will need to be sourced sooner rather than later.

His form has not been great at the start of the season - being rotated out of the lineup for the midweek defeat to Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Salah will also be missing for up to 10 matches during Egypt’s Afcon campaign - meaning Jeremie Frimpong is likely to be given an extended run of games.

Olise would be a huge upgrade on the Dutchman on the right wing - with his blend of goalscoring and playmaking marking him out as one of the game’s major talents.
