Ty Gibbs, finally in a position to have to face questions about the competition meeting at Joe Gibbs Racing following the incident with Denny Hamlin at New Hampshire, did not offer much beyond what his teammates have already said about the matter.

“Yeah, I’m sure all the other guys answered it for you, so, I’ll just leave it at that,” Gibbs said on Saturday before qualifying at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval. “It’s been good. We’re making progress on the 54 (car) and I’m excited about the race. There are some changes at the track with the tire barrier and I’m focused on that.”

Yeah, but is he going to adjust his approach racing around teammates in the playoffs, after drawing the ire of both Hamlin and Christopher Bell before getting punted at Loudon?

“Yeah, I think they answered it,” Gibbs said. “Yeah, for sure, always rooting for (Joe Gibbs Racing) to win a championship and I think I can help as well. We’ll see what I can do; hammer down and go try to win races.”

Gibbs did concede having a one-on-one conversation with Hamlin. Then came a question about this just being a byproduct of young hungry drivers versus veterans, all within the same roof.

“I don’t think you’re going to have getting wrecked,” Gibbs said. “That isn’t ideal, but its racing, and it happens sometimes. We’re racing professional motorsports and cars and sometimes they’re hard to control at times.

“We just keep going from there.”
