While there’s still plenty of decommitments and flips to come this fall in the 2026 cycle, many programs are already turning their attention to the cream of the crop in the junior class.
We’ve already seen a slew of top 2027 prospects announce their commitments this year. On Saturday, five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster, the top-ranked DL in the cycle, pledged to in-state Texas Tech.
With Brewster off the board, 21 of the top 100 junior prospects — according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies — are already committed. That includes 10 of the top 50. Below is a look at the 10 highest-ranked commits in the 2027 cycle, as of Oct. 4:
EDGE LaDamion Guyton — Texas Tech
School:Benedictine Military (Ga.)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 1 NATL.
Scouting Summary: “Explosive, powerful pass rusher with elite bend around the edge at an early stage. Flashes high-end first-step quickness. Stays very low while running the arc, dipping his shoulder to shirk offensive tackles. Converts speed to power with ease. Also shows early signs of good hand usage, quickly disengaging on contact. Plays with a high motor and pursues plays from sideline to sideline. Productive in his first two varsity seasons at Savannah (Ga.) Savannah Christian, totaling 33 tackles for loss while playing alongside Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman Elijah Griffin. Transferred to Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military for his junior season. Can improve his finishing ability in the backfield, as his ability to disrupt doesn’t always manifest in dominant stats. Length and frame are average for the position.”
DL Jalen Brewster — Texas Tech
School:Cedar Hill (Texas)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 7 NATL.
Scout’s Take: “Jalen Brewster is the top defensive lineman early on. The 6-foot-3, 300-pounder is an elite athlete along the interior. The burst and movement skills are rare for a young defensive line prospect at his size. We see the athleticism show up in multiple roles at Cedar Hill (Texas) High as he works as a stand-up pass rusher and takes direct snaps on offense.”
RB Kemon Spell — Penn State
School:McKeesport (Pa.)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 8 NATL.
Scout’s Take: “The competition is sure to be tougher throughout the season, but this first look jives with everything we’ve seen from Kemon Spell up to this point. The 5-foot-10, 210-pounder has been our top-ranked running back in the 2027 cycle in every ranking throughout the cycle. He’s a tackle-breaking machine and has continued to add burst and long speed to his game. We were also highly impressed with his showing in the 7-on-7 setting at the OT7 Playoffs over the summer. There is a lot of football to be played, but Spell has a shot to be one of the better running back prospects in recent cycles.”
WR Jamier Brown — Ohio State
School:Wayne (Ohio)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 10 NATL.
Scout’s Take: “Ohio State commit Jamier Brown leads the group of 2027 wide receivers. Brown is coming off a big sophomore season at Wayne High, as he hauled in 63 catches for 1,035 yards and 15 touchdowns. He doubles as a track star, winning a national title in the 60 meters. He’s a skilled pass-catcher who can threaten every level of the field and turned in strong showings at Rivals Five-Star and the OT7 Playoffs.”
OT Cooper Hackett — Oklahoma
School:Fort Gibson (Okla.)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 17 NATL.
Scouting Summary: Cooper Hackett is a high-upside offensive tackle prospect, one who we identified early on as one of the top tackles initially in the 2027 cycle. You have to start with the frame and athleticism. He has great stature at 6-foot-6-plus, carries his weight really well and has room to continue getting bigger once he gets in a college strength program. He’s an outstanding athlete, has size as a two-way player, playing offensive tackle and defensive line. You can really see his movement skills playing on defense and he doubles as a high-level basketball player with some impressive plays on the hardwood. He has building blocks and the foundation that you’re looking for in a top offensive tackle prospect — the outstanding athletic ability and with the frame and growth potential. I think he should be seen as a guy who’s more of a developmental-type right now, but he has a very high upside and that has him near the top of a strong tackle group early on in the 2027 cycle.”
S Tory Pittman — Nebraska
School:Omaha Central (Neb.)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 24 NATL. (No. 2 S)
Scout’s Take: “He is truly one of the most dynamic players in the country, regardless of position, with what he can do on Friday nights. And for Omaha Central (Neb.) high school, Pittman is asked to do a lot on the football field. He returns kicks, he plays safety, he plays in the box, on offense, he plays receiver, and takes a fair amount of carries from the backfield. So far as a junior, Pittman has played six quarters of football and totaled 13 tackles on the defensive side of the ball, showing serious physicality and violence. But on the offensive side, he’s caught 3 passes for 60 yards with a touchdown reception and a rushing touchdown. Pittman is one of the most gifted athletes in the 2027 cycle and continues to prove he’s more than just a track star with his instincts and physical style of play early on in his junior season.”
OT Kaeden Penny — Oklahoma
School:Bixby (Okla.)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 26 NATL.
About: A quintessential Oklahoma target, Penny has had the Sooners at the top of his board for a while and opted to pull the trigger on an early pledge last week — the same day that OU flipped elite four-star OT Cooper Hackett from Texas Tech. The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder will be in the mix to finish as a five-star prospect when it’s all said and done and looks to be another strong get for vaunted Sooners OL coach Bill Bedenbaugh.
OT Layton Von Brandt — Penn State
School:Appoquinimink (Del.)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 39 NATL.
Scout’s Take: “Layton von Brandt stacks up pretty well in the 2027 OL group. He’s got good length and I think he’s got a lot of room to continue filling out. I really liked his movement skills at the position. I thought he was a nimble mover, fluid and a guy who looks pretty athletic. So, when you’re looking at him long-term, I like where he stacks up … Going into last season, he was 255. I think he could easily be a 300-plus pounder and maintain that athleticism. A lot of the offensive linemen we’ve watched so far, and certainly at tackle, are developmental types. I think he has a nice runway there physically, especially with how well he moves. I liked his sophomore film, and while it’s not against the strongest competition, he plays the way you would expect from a blue-chip prospect at that level.”
CB Kenton Dopson — Miami
School:Norland (Fla.)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 48 NATL.
Scout’s Take: “Dobson has put himself in the top tier of cornerbacks early on in the cycle for several reasons. He has quality size and speed combination — he’s over 6 feet and 180 pounds, runs sub-11 seconds in the 100M and had a really good sophomore season while facing strong competition. You see him make a lot of plays on the ball. He has shown high-level ball skills and the ability to locate and find the football. His cover skills are natural, and his ability to quickly redirect and stay in phase, we saw that on film as a sophomore and also in person this offseason.”
OT Kelsey Adams — Georgia
School:Langston Hughes (Ga.)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 50 NATL.
About: The 6-foot-5, 260-pounder had already named a top 10 list in August and has been on the road taking game visits this fall. He told Rivals’ Chad Simmons that UGA was among the schools recruiting him the hardest heading into the season and that was met with a commitment to the Dawgs on Sept. 27. “My favorite thing about Georgia is how they put players in the league. If you play there, you have a chance to make it out. They coach their players up,” Adams told Simmons in August.
