Born in Coleraine, Willie joined us from Linfield and made 386 club appearances between 1966 and 1975, as well as earning six international caps for Northern Ireland.
He was also a key part of the Joe Harvey side that lifted the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969 - our last piece of silverware until last season's Carabao Cup victory.
He returned to St. James' Park as manager in 1985, spending three seasons in the dugout before departing during the 1988/89 campaign.
