Bayern Munich celebrated their best season start in club history and a few other records in style with a visit to the Oktoberfest amid a statement of intent from the club president on Sunday.
Striker Harry Kane and winger Luis Diaz posed for photographers in traditional Bavarian attire with their wives and huge jugs of beer before quickly escaping the rain again and returning into the beer tent.
The weather may have been gloomy but the mood was bright after Bayern made it 10 wins out of 10 in all competitions for the first time since Bundesliga promotion in 1965 with a 3-0 league victory at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Beerfest visit
The visit to Munich's famous beerfest, in traditional Bavarian attire, was long planned for Sunday, before many players head to their national teams, and Bayern then aim to stretch the record to 11 and confirm the pecking order in German football in an October 18 table topper against Borussia Dortmund, who are four points back.
"Even though the weather is not playing its part we will still enjoy it," board member for sport Max Eberl said in the wake of the latest success on Saturday in Frankfurt where they have often struggled in the past.
Club president Herbert Hainer said: "You see a happy president. I think we're playing incredibly good football, very refreshing, forward-oriented. We're scoring lots of goals, hardly conceding any at the back, and have now won 10 games in a row."
"I have said it before: If Luis Diaz starts scoring goals then we are unbeatable," Hainer vowed.
Diaz brace, records for Kane and Neuer
Big summer signing Diaz scored a brace in Frankfurt and set up Harry Kane for the other, the first goal coming after 15 seconds which set the tone as coach Vincent Kompany praised that "his energy and hunger lifts the entire team."
Kane became the first man to score 11 goals in the first six Bundesliga games, and there was almost even bigger joy when he said that knock on the foot he sustained late in the game was far less serious than originally feared.
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer meanwhile drew level with former team-mate Thomas Müller on a Bundesliga record 362 career victories.
Still room for improvement
"That's our tenth win in a row, and of course, we're still wondering what more we can do to improve. That’s always the focus: how do we keep developing, and who’s our next opponent?" Neuer said.
"We keep looking ahead, preparing carefully, and thinking about what we can take from each game, where there's still room to grow, but of course, we also recognise what went well.
"There’s a real feeling of confidence about us. Our passages of play are becoming ever clearer. No matter who starts or comes off the bench, everyone knows exactly what’s expected of them. That makes a huge difference."
Kane struck a similar note, speaking of "another step in the right direction.
"I think the team’s improving week on week. Wins give you energy, and we’ve got to hold on to that. The feeling in the squad is clear: we want to keep pushing, and you could see that again today."
Big expectations
The 10 victories eclipsed their previous mark of nine at the start of the treble-winning 2012-13 campaign under Jupp Heynckes, and raise expectations.
Frankfurt managing director Markus Krösche said that Bayern were "on another level," and Bayern could have even more power once playmaker Jamal Musiala, full back Alphonso Davies and centre back Hiroki Ito are fit again after long-term injuries.
All three are expected back before the end of the year which could be crucial towards the business end of the season in spring when titles are won or lost.
Quality time
But for now, it was time to enjoy the moment at the famous beerfest, which is also good for team-building, as Kompany already pointed out on Friday.
"We like being together. It's a moment where it's not just about football but also about family. Bayern is a family, so we'll take the time to be together," Kompany said.
