New SEC Power Rankings after Week 6

A weekend filled with upsets changed the power structure of the SEC as it enters the halfway point of the season.

The thing about Southeastern Conference football is that because it's the best conference in the country, it's also a conference in which any team can beat almost any other on a given week.

Such was the case in Week 6 as Florida picked up a win over Texas and Vanderbilt pushed Alabama to the brink. Now, heading into a big Week 7 that features multiple games in which ranked foes face off, more shakes ups could be on the way.

For now, Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Ole Miss appear to be standing out from the rest. But considering the upsets so far, it woudn't be s hock to see a couple of those fall by the wayside come next Sunday.

For now, here's how the teams look heading into the back half of the season.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (last week: 1)

Most years, beating Vanderbilt would be no big accomplishment. But the Commodores are good and Alabama needed just about everything it had to win. And win impressively, the Crimson Tide did.

2. Georgia Bulldogs (2)

Kentucky didn't put up much of a fight against Georgia. The Bulldogs were just too good. They will face a stiffer test in Week 7 when Auburn visits Athens.

3. Oklahoma Sooners (4)

Oklahoma and Texas' yearly matchup is always fun. This year, it holds even more as the winner stays in the College Football Playoff picture. The loser, especially if it's Texas, will need to make up ground later in SEC play.

4. Texas A&M (6)

Texas A&M dispatched a much improved Mississippi State team and next gets Florida, which is coming off an upset of Texas. Can the Aggies avoid the fate of their in-state brethren?

5. Ole Miss Rebels (5)

Ole Miss linebacker TJ Dottery (6) celebrates during a college football game between Ole Miss and LSU at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss., on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025. Ole Miss defeated LSU 24-19.

Ole Miss faces just two more ranked opponents this season, leaving the Rebels in good position to make the Playoff. First, they have to get by Washington State. They should be fine.

6. LSU Tigers (7)

The Tigers are good. Just how good remains to be seen. After a bye in Week 6, they'll jump back into SEC play against a South Carolina team that has disappointed and should be hungry for an upset.

7. Tennessee Volunteers (8)

Last year, Tennessee was upset by Arkansas. It could happen again, but the Volunteers are better this year and Arkansas is worse. Such an upset again would be devastating.

8. Missouri Tigers (9)

Missouri is a perfect 5-0 through six weeks. Now comes their first massive test: home against Alabama. The Tigers are strong, but they may just be elite. Saturday will go a long way in determining.

9. Vanderbilt Commodores (10)

Vanderbilt gets a bye after putting of a good fight against Alabama. They need it. LSU, Missouri and Texas are around the corner. Can the 'Dores stay high?

10. Auburn Tigers (11)

Much like Ole Miss, Auburn's schedule from here on out is relatively weak. After this week's game against Georgia and next week's against Missouri that is. A bowl is in sight, but which one.

11. Florida Gators (14)

Florida finally looked like the team many prognosticators expected before the season began. Of course, Texas is much weaker than anticipated, too. If the Gators can do it again Saturday against Texas A&M, then folks can truly re-evaluate.

12. Texas Longhorns (3)

Yikes. After weeks of looking less than impressive in wins, Texas finally snapped Saturday. The Longhorns looked downright bad against Florida. With OU up next, things are a bummer in Austin right now.

13. South Carolina Gamecocks (12)

The Gamecocks will need a miracle to make it to preseason projections. Every SEC game from here out comes against a top-15 team. First up, one the road Saturday against LSU.

14. Mississippi State Bulldogs (13)

After a strong start to the season, Mississippi State looked troubled against Texas A&M. The Bulldogs can get back on track at Florida on Saturday.

15. Kentucky Wildcats (15)

Kentucky carried a bye in Week 6, but things don't get easier on the way back. Texas will be looking to prove it isn't as bad it looked against Florida. At least the Wildcats get the Longhorns at home.

16. Arkansas Razorbacks (16)

Interim head coach Bobby Petrino gets his first game in the role Saturday at Tennessee. He wants the job long term, so getting a win against the Vols would go a long way in making that a possibility.
