Barcelona’s unbeaten start to the 2025/26 La Liga season came to a painful end after a 1-4 defeat to Sevilla, a result that stunned both fans and players.
The heavy loss not only exposed the team’s weaknesses but also left several players visibly frustrated, as none of them attempted to sugar-coat the performance.
Midfielder Frenkie de Jong was one of the first to speak out, acknowledging that Barcelona were far from their best.
“When you lose, you’re always disappointed. We didn’t play well in the first half, better in the second, but unfortunately we lost,” he told the club’s media as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
Calling for improvement
De Jong also mentioned the team’s packed schedule, which may have affected their energy levels and focus.
“I think it’s partly the accumulation of fatigue. It is what it is. We’ve played seven games in 21 days, but sometimes chasing the ball tires you out more than anything else.”
The midfielder did not use this as an excuse, but it highlighted how the relentless run of fixtures has taken a toll on the squad.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Balde didn’t hold back in his post-match comments either.
“We did a lot of things wrong. We could have scored goals in the second half, but we have a lot to learn,” he said.
The young full-back, who entered the game after half-time, added that “it was a difficult match, due to the time of day, the weather, but those aren’t excuses.
“We played poorly, and we have a lot to improve on.”
“We have to improve” – Balde
Balde accepted that the team created chances but failed to take them, which ultimately made the difference.
“We had the penalty and other clear chances, but that will help us in the future,” he remarked, before also pointing out a few questionable referee decisions.
“I think it wasn’t a penalty for me, and it was also a foul on Jules, but we have to improve,” he affirmed.
