Massimiliano Allegri protected Christian Pulisic in front of the press after missing his penalty during Milan’s 0-0 draw away against Juventus on Sunday evening, but the Rossoneri coach had a slightly different reaction immediately after the USMNT star skied from the spot.

Milan had to settle for a 0-0 draw away against Juventus on Sunday evening, but will have been disappointed not to have come away with all three points after Pulisic’s miss from the penalty spot and Leao’s wasted opportunity in the 90th minute.

The result leaves Milan in third place in the Serie A standings, now two points shy of Napoli and Roma at the top of the table.

Allegri could not bring himself to watch Pulisic’s penalty against Juventus on Sunday evening. Instead, he turned towards his own dugout and only turned back around once he heard the cheers from the home supporters in the Stadium.

As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, Allegri turned to his assistant, Marco Landucci and asked: “Did he save it?” and heard the response: “No, over.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Allegri told Landucci: “I told him to kick it flat,” before proceeding to debrief Pulisic himself the next time he came near the technical area.

Allegri had a chance to reassess after full-time, and told reporters during his post-match press conference that he would not be changing Milan’s designated penalty taker as a result of Pulisic’s miss, despite the fact that he has missed two of his last three in Serie A.

“Pulisic has always been the penalty kick taker. You don’t change it for a mistake,” Allegri said.

“We need to understand who can be the penalty taker when Pulisic is not on the pitch.”
