Ex Lazio & Italy Goalkeeper Assesses Inter Milan Strong Form Under Cristian Chivu: “Too Early To Make Comparison With Last Season”

Former Lazio and Italy goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani has offered his verdict on Cristian Chivu’s early regime at Inter Milan.

Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, the 59-year-old admitted he was skeptical about Inter’s decision to hand the managerial reins over to the Romanian coach.

Inter Milan appointed Cristian Chivu as the new head coach in June.

Indeed, the Nerazzurri turned to the 44-year-old to replace Simone Inzaghi after Cesc Fabregas turned them down.

Despite being relatively new to senior management, Chivu has got his tenure at San Siro off to a flying start.

After consecutive league losses in early September, Chivu’s men have hit a purple patch, winning five consecutive games.

Moreover, a 4-1 rout of Cremonese last weekend maintained Inter’s free-scoring form.

Last season’s Serie A runners-up have netted at least two goals in seven of their eight competitive matches this season.

Therefore, it’s unsurprising that they’ve set a new club record for most goals scored in the first eight outings of the season.

Marchegiani praised Chivu for quickly finding chemistry with the squad.

Indeed, a strong rapport between the coach and players has always been the foundation of every successful team.

Therefore, it’s fair to say that Chivu has laid the groundwork for a potentially trophy-laden campaign.

“I was the first to have doubts about this Inter,” Marchegiani admitted.

“I thought that just changing the coach and bringing in certain players would make it difficult to achieve the spark that Inter has shown.

“Chivu is getting great responses from the players.

“You can see it in the way he communicates, when he hugs the players as they enter the field – there’s a real sense of empathy.

“For me, it’s too early to make comparisons with last year.

“Let’s look at the matches. Against Cagliari and Cremonese, they were purely offensive games.”
