Is Xavier Worthy playing tonight? Fantasy advice for Chiefs WR's last-minute injury

This could be a tricky one for fantasy players.

Is Xavier Worthy playing tonight? Fantasy advice for Chiefs WR's last-minute injury originally appeared on The Sporting News

The news came out of nowhere on Sunday.

Xavier Worthy, the Kansas City Chiefs' speedy wide receiver, was injured.

He hadn't been on the injury report all week, but the Chiefs added him to their report on Sunday with an ankle injury.

According to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, Worthy's ankle swelled up on the flight to Jacksonville.

That puts fantasy football managers with Worthy in a bind, because the Chiefs are the last game of the week, playing on Monday Night Football against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Is Xavier Worthy playing tonight?

Xavier Worthy's playing status for Monday night is up in the air.

When NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe reported the addition to the injury report, the indication was that it was viewed as a precautionary move.

But any late injury is definitely one that adds risk to proceedings. The Chiefs surely spent time Sunday and will spend more Monday trying to figure out what's going on with Worthy's ankle.

The final inactive report Monday night will come out at 6:45 p.m. ET.

There's a chance there are new reports on Worthy before then, but if not, that's when his status will be known for sure.

Xavier Worthy injury fantasy tips

If Worthy is in your fantasy football lineup, there are a few things to consider.

The first is your current matchup. It may already be won or lost regardless of what Worthy does. If that is the case, don't worry about any late transactions and just ride it out.

The second is your league's IR settings. If Worthy is ruled out 90 minutes before the game, and your league allows him to be moved to an IR spot, then it's easy to do that and pick up a guy in his place.

If Worthy can't go on IR with a simple OUT designation, then it's tougher. You won't want to drop Worthy himself, but maybe you've got another guy playing Monday on your bench that can either be played or dropped.

If you are looking to pick someone up if Worthy is out, options include Chiefs WR Tyquan Thornton, Jaguars WR Parker Washington (or Travis Hunter dropped in some leagues), and in FLEX spots, Jags RB Bhayshul Tuten, Jags TE Brenton Strange and maybe Chiefs RB Brashard Smith.
