Vassar men's basketball to face Marist in exhibition, open Nov. 14-15 with home tournament

Vassar College men's basketball will not stray often from the Mid-Hudson region for the first month of the season.

The Brewers will play at NCAA Div. I Marist University in a Nov. 12 exhibition at the McCann Center. The official opener is Nov. 14-15 when Vassar hosts the Hochberg Family Tip-Off tournament: The Brewers will take on SUNY Geneseo in the first outing on Friday, and face either Colby-Sawyer or Hartford in the second contest on Saturday afternoon.

Vassar will follow with an appearance in the Hudson Valley Classic on Nov. 21-22, taking on Mount Saint Mary (at SUNY New Paltz) and facing New Paltz (at the Mount) the next day.

The Brewers travel to Williams on Dec. 2 and then return home for three early Liberty League contests: Dec. 5 vs. Ithaca; Dec. 6 vs. Hobart; and, Dec. 10 vs. Skidmore.

Senior weekend will be Feb. 13 and 14 against Union and Rochester Institute of Technology. The Liberty League tournament will be held Feb. 24, 27 and March 1.

Head coach Ryan Mee, hired in summer of 2018, should have a dozen returnees from last season, including three rising seniors and eight rising juniors. Rising juniors Shea Fitzgerald and Avery Lee were both first-team Liberty League all-stars.

Mee has guided the Brewers to a pair of winning seasons: Vassar was 18-9 in 2021-22 (placing third in the Liberty) and 16-10 last season (again, placing third) - as a result, Mee and his assistants were named the Liberty League coaching staff of the year.
