The Mississippi State Bulldogs have a new college baseball freshman named Jack Bauer.
Yes, that's the same name as the famed character from the hit TV series, 24.
And if there was any doubt about Bauer's willingness to embrace his name, look no further. Bauer has chosen his jersey number, and it's perfect.

Bauer is a legitimate MLB prospect, although his commitment to Mississippi State was firm enough that he wasn't chosen in the most recent draft out of Lincoln-Way East High School in Illinois.
The right-handed pitcher has touched 103 miles per hour with his fastball. In a few years, he'll likely be drafted, potentially high.
And he'll bring his notable name along with him.

Is Jack Bauer named after the 24 character?
Yes, Jack Bauer's parents actually named him after the protagonist from the hit TV show 24.
The Jack Bauer in that show was played by Kiefer Sutherland, who told MLB.com he has heard about the prodigy.
"To see someone excel at that level at such a young age, and the fact that he has the last name Bauer and his parents chose to call him Jack. ... It's kind of fun for me," Sutherland said. "Like I said, I'm not the most avid baseball fan, but now I've got something to root for."
Bauer wore 24 in high school, too, but he hasn't yet watched the show.
"Sometime in the future, I do plan on watching it," Bauer told MLB.com. "I've heard great things."
Maybe after he makes it to the majors and puts together a stellar career, he'll find the time to tune in. But up first, a journey through the world of SEC baseball.
