Several teams make appearances in the LSWA statewide football poll after Week 5

The Louisiana Sports Writers Association statewide football poll after the fifth week of action was released this week and several new teams joined the ranks of the various classes.

Evangel Christian (4-1) joined the Class 5A poll at No. 10 following the Eagles’ 62-14 victory over Huntington last Thursday. Undefeated Alexandria (5-0) moved up from No. 5 to No. 2 and West Monroe (4-1) moved up three spots to No. 7.

There were no newbies in Class 4A, but Plaquemine jumped from No. 8 to No. 4.

In Class 3A, Jennings (4-1) joined at No. 10, while Class 2A remained almost unchanged.

Haynesville still rules Class 1A and Westminster-Opelousas moved into the poll at No. 10. Kentwood (2-3) stayed in the poll despite being the only team in any class' poll with a losing record.
