ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) —Monday was a fantastic day for some local golfers in IHSA sectional action in Rockford.
In the girls 1A sectional at Forest Hills Country Club, Rockford Lutheran won the team championship by a whopping 30 strokes with a 364 total.
Senior Ella Pieschel led the Crusaders with the individual championship. She shot an 80. Madelyn Bennett was Lutheran’s next golfer shooting an 89 to finish in seventh place. Lutheran advances to 1A State as a team this weekend in Decatur.
The Crusaders will have company from the Stateline. Byon finished in second place at the same sectional. Alayna Brandt shot an 85 to lead Byron good for a third-place finish individually. Freshman Gwen Brandt shot a 90 to finish in ninth place.
Over at the Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club in Rockford, a 2A boys sectional was held. Boylan senior Cole Beto was the story there. He sizzled shooting a 66. That was the top score of the day by four strokes. Boylan just missed qualifying for state as a team. The Titans finished in fourth place. That was four strokes out of the top three. The top three teams Ottawa, Lake Forest and Prairie Ridge qualified for state.
Belvidere North finished in seventh place in the team standings led by Sean O’Connell’s 76 which was good for a tie for ninth place individually. Rochelle finished in eighth place in the team standings and Freeport finished in ninth place.
