The Arizona Cardinals endured one of the worst losses you'll see in the NFL this year in Week 5.
The Cardinals held a 21-3 lead at one point over the lowly Tennessee Titans, and ended up losing 22-21 after a comedy of errors. One of the most notable errors was made by backup running back Emari Demercado.
In the third quarter, with the Cardinals holding a 21-6 lead, Demercado burst through the Titans' line and ran for what appeared to be a 72-yard touchdown.
The score and extra point would have put the Cardinals up 28-6, but upon review, it was determined that Demercado dropped the ball before crossing the goal line. As a result, a touchback was ruled and the Titans gained possession.
After the game, video surfaced of Gannon yelling at Demercado on the sideline and then hitting him in the chest area. Gannon was not proud of the incident, and he addressed it in in his Monday presser.
"I apologized to Emari, I apologized to the team and I just told them, I kind of let the moment of what happened get the better of me there," Gannon explained. "Obviously, I try to be emotionally stable and calm because my job is to solve problems during a game and lead the charge on that."
Gannon isn't exactly known as the most vocal or animated head coach, so it was a bit surprising to see him so worked up. Although, with the Cardinals now losers of three in a row, it's not surprising to see frustrations boiling over.
"So, it's not really who I am, who I want to be and I told the guys that today. so it's a mistake by me and it's just like everybody in there, everybody made some type of mistake yesterday, which culminates to why we didn't win the game and we can't let it happen moving forward."
As Gannon mentioned, pretty much everybody on the team made a mistake yesterday, so it's unfair to pin all the blame on Demercado. However, dropping the ball before crossing the goal line is something that happens every year, and it's mind-boggling every time.
Now, the Cardinals will prepare to take on Indianapolis Colts in Week 6. After that, the team has games against the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys, so it won't be the easiest route for the Cardinals if they hope to turn their season around.
