Eduardo Camavinga has not had it easy in recent times, especially with injury struggles hitting him repeatedly and preventing any form of continuity.

His prolonged absence opened the doors for new players to establish their names under Xabi Alonso and he now finds it difficult to break into the starting XI.

Aurelien Tchouameni, for starters, has taken over the starting defensive midfield role which is closest to Camavinga’s niche, and at the moment looks irreplaceable in the department.

The likes of Federico Valverde and Arda Guler have also shown a great rise and have booked two other slots in midfield and Jude Bellingham is another who is a strong candidate.

Camavinga, thus, sees stern competition at all levels.

Faith in the player

As relayed in a recent report by AS (h/t Madrid Zone), despite the transfer rumours, Real Madrid consider Camavinga to be a special player and have 100% confidence in his ability to come good and develop into a player who is pivotal to the team’s success.

The player’s recent injury woes have not served to lower the confidence in the player to any extent and both the board and the management are convinced that Camavinga can return to his best and the version that they signed him to become.

At this point, breaking into the starting XI as an advanced or central midfielder is complicated and Camavinga will have to eye the defensive midfield position as his best bet.

So far this season, the 22-year-old has not yet made a league start for the team and has only four appearances in the competition.

He averages just 17 minutes per game and it is clear that the best is yet to come.

It remains to be seen at what rate Alonso improves Camavinga’s playing time after the break, especially given that he will be more than ready to start. Needless to say, caution will be exercised.
