Lazio have reportedly received reassuring news from the infirmary, as their captain Mattia Zaccagni has avoided a serious injury.

Lazio Dealt Mattia Zaccagni Blow

The 30-year-old was expected to start on Saturday against Torino, but just hours before the contest, it was revealed that he had picked up a knock that ruled him out of the contest. This untimely blow occurred at a time when injuries had been piling up at Formello. Nicolo Rovella, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Matias Vecino, Adam Marusic and Luca Pellegrini have also been unavailable.

Zaccagni has been struggling with a groin injury since the second half of the previous campaign and eventually underwent surgery in June. While this new injury is affecting the same area (particularly the adductor), it remains to be seen if it’s directly related to the original issue.

Mattia Zaccagni Avoids Serious Injury

Nevertheless, Lazio insider Alberto Abbate provided a positive update on Zaccagni’s condition. During his appearance on Radio Laziale, the Italian journalist revealed that the winger has only sustained a Grade I injury, thus ruling out the possibility of a long stoppage due to a more serious issue.

The Timetable

Based on Abbate’s update, La Lazio Siamo Noi estimates a recovery period of around three weeks. Luckily for the Aquile, the international break will give them some breathing room and allow Maurizio Sarri to recover some of his players.

Zaccagni to Return Against Juventus?

Zaccagni will likely to skip the trip to Bergamo for the clash against Atalanta on October 19. However, the source believes he could be fit enough to earn a call-up for the big showdown against Juventus on October 26, which will take place at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
