Franck Haise’s defensive options were already depleted prior to Moise Bombito’s injury on Sunday. The Canada international suffered a fractured tibia during the 2-2 draw against AS Monaco over the weekend and will now miss much of, if not all of, the season.
As well as Bombito, Nice are also without Youssouf Ndayishimiye and Mohamed Abdlemonem, both of whom suffered ACL injuries at the end of last season. The pair could return in either December or January. Then there is the case of club captain Dante, who is in the final season of his professional career. It may be a case of one season too many for the Brazilian, whose knee has already let him down on multiple occasions in these opening weeks of the season. His game time is being managed, but he is more absent than present at the moment.
It leaves Nice with a shortage at centre-back, especially given that Juma Bah, signed on loan from Manchester City, has fallen significantly short of expectations. Les Aiglons are therefore considering making a ‘joker’ transfer, according to L’Équipe.
It would allow Nice to sign one player, either on a free transfer or from another French club, outside of the transfer window, as Stade Brestois did by signing Soumaila Coulibaly on loan from RC Strasbourg Alsace last week.
