Terrion Arnold wrote on X, 'God doesn't make mistakes I'll be back' after suffering a shoulder injury against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Terrion Arnold's once-promising second season could be coming to a premature end.
NFL Network reported Tuesday that Arnold's latest shoulder injury "likely" is season-ending and the Detroit Lions cornerback is in the process of getting second opinions on how to treat the injury.
Arnold re-injured his shoulder in the third quarter of last week's win over the Cincinnati Bengals after initially leaving the Lions' Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns.
Lions coach Dan Campbell said Monday that Arnold will be "out for a long time" but that he wasn't sure yet if the injury would require season-ending surgery.
"I thought this was one of the better games he’s played in a while," Campbell said. "I thought it was really good. We put a lot on him and I thought he answered the bell. Unfortunately, he’s going to be out for a while."
Arnold allowed just three catches for 28 yards on six targets in 32 pass coverage snaps against the Bengals while matching up with All-Pro receiver Ja'Marr Chase part of the day. Arnold had two pass breakups and was called for pass interference and defensive holding penalties, the latter of which nullified a Lions safety.
After an up-and-down start to the season, Arnold, the Lions' first-round pick in 2024, posted a season-low passer rating against of 63.2 against the Bengals.
"God doesn’t make mistakes I’ll be back," Arnold wrote Monday on the social media site X.
The Lions have suffered significant injury losses to their cornerback room already this season and will be without four of their top five corners for this week's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
D.J. Reed, the Lions' No. 1 corner, is on injured reserve and out till at least November with a hamstring strain. Ennis Rakestraw, who projected to be the team's top backup cornerback entering the season, underwent shoulder surgery in August and is out for the year. And backup cornerback and special teams staple Khalil Dorsey suffered a wrist injury in practice last week that could land him on injured reserve.
Amik Robertson, who opened the season as the Lions' starting slot cornerback, and Rock Ya-Sin are expected to start at cornerback against the Chiefs, with Avonte Maddox playing in the slot. Veteran cornerback Tre Flowers also could have a depth role after signing to the practice squad last week and playing nine defensive snaps against the Bengals.
