The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offense was dealt a tough blow following the team's Week 4 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles after it was discovered that running back Bucky Irving was dealing with two separate injuries.
Irving was listed on the Week 5 injury report with shoulder and foot issues and he did not practice at all before being ruled out for the contest against the Seattle Seahawks.
Now, we look ahead to Week 6, when the Buccaneers will take on the San Francisco 49ers.
Is Irving going to make it back by Sunday? Here's what we know.
Bucky Irving injury update
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Irving is not expected to play versus the 49ers in Week 6, as he's expected to be out at least two weeks. The game against San Fran will mark the second week Irving sits.
Schefter adds that Irving's shoulder is the bigger concern over the foot.
"Turns out that Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving’s shoulder injury, which he did not report to the team until Tuesday last week, is more of an issue than his sprained foot, per sources," Schefter reported. "Irving is dealing with a shoulder subluxation that is expected to sideline him at least two weeks. Irving will not play today vs. the Seahawks and he’s not expected back for next week’s game vs. the 49ers, either."
Not ideal, but Schefter's report does at least leave the door open for Irving to return in either Week 7 against the Detroit Lions or in Week 8 versus the New Orleans Saints.
The fact that the Bucs didn't place Irving on injured reserve shows they think he can be back before the four-week mark.
As long as Irving is out, veteran Rachaad White will take the reins of Tampa Bay's backfield. White had a solid showing in Week 5, finishing with 41 rushing yards, 30 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
He faced almost no competition from the current RB2, Sean Tucker, who had just six touches, including three carries. White will be a fantasy football starting option until Irving gets back.
