Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart provided five injury updates ahead of the Auburn Tigers game
Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart provided several different injury updates ahead of UGA's Oct. 11 game against the Auburn Tigers.
Georgia has been without All-SEC offensive tackle Earnest Greene due to a leg injury since the Tennessee game.
"(Earnest Greene) is working out with us this week and trying to recover, and we'll see where he's at today," Smart said. The Bulldogs could use an experienced offensive lineman like Greene in a hostile road atmosphere at Auburn.
Georgia also lost starting offensive tackle Monroe Freeling due to an ankle injury he suffered on the first offensive drive against Kentucky.
"(Freeling) has an ankle, but it's probably not as severe as we thought," Smart said. "He's not having any kind of surgery or anything, and, you know, we're hopeful to get him back this week. We'll just have to wait and see. He's not going to be able to do a lot today, but we think there's a chance he can go."
Georgia needs a strong offensive line performance against Auburn. The Tigers are fifth in the SEC with 16 sacks and have first-team All-SEC defensive lineman Keldric Faulk. So far, Georgia's offensive line has allowed six sacks (tied for fourth-fewest in the SEC) for just 14 yards.
Smart updates Jordan Hall's status
Georgia defensive lineman Jordan Hall, a former five-star recruit, limped off the field during the Kentucky game. Kirby Smart thinks he should be good to go against Alabama.
I think (Jordan Hall) should be fine," Smart said. "He's had the same issue for a while. He's dealing with some patellar tendonitis that he deals with week in and week out."
Smart updates the status on receiver, cornerback
Georgia wide receiver Thomas Blackshear has missed several games this season due to injury.
"Thomas Blackshear is dealing with a groin injury he's had that he's been trying to fight back from," Smart said. "He's really had it all camp, all year, and continues to work the rehab to get back from that."
Georgia is not expected to have a big role for Blackshear, but the Bulldogs did start the season with Daniel Harris as a starting cornerback. Harris has been conspicuously absent from the defensive line up recently.
"(Daniel Harris) has continued to play well on special teams," Smart said. "He's done a great job for us, dealing with a little bit of a hamstring issue. It's about practicing during the week and the guys that practice the best and play the ball the best) and compete are going to play in the games."
Part of Harris' absence could be related to his play, but his hamstring issue could be limiting his effectiveness.
The SEC availability report will be released on Wednesday evening for the Georgia-Auburn game.
