Brock Bowers hasn't had the start to the season he would've hoped for.

The Las Vegas Raiders' star tight end played great in Week 1 before exiting with an injury, and now he's been dealing with the ailment since.

It kept Bowers out entirely for the first time in Week 5 as the knee just wasn't quite ready to take the field.

Now, Raiders coach Pete Carroll has called Bowers "week-to-week," speaking more about the injury in his Monday press conference.

“We got to see what’s going on and see if we can get him back," Carroll said. "And he’s dying to play. We went all the way till Saturday’s walk-through to see if he could go, and it didn’t feel like he could. So, we’ll just start over again, do it again this week.”

It is encouraging that the Raiders thought there was a chance for Bowers to play even as they reached last weekend.

But by the same token, the general implication of "week-to-week" is that this could still take a little while if it doesn't break the right way.

The Raiders were particularly shorthanded at tight end in the Week 5 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Michael Mayer was out with a concussion.

Las Vegas is now looking at a 1-4 record. In a tough division, a turnaround would be a big challenge.

They've probably got no chance of fixing things without getting Bowers back on the field, though, so the hope in the Raiders' building is surely that Brock can heal up and get back onto the field.

Without him, the Raiders' offense has games like Sunday, where they scored six points and basically had no chance. At least with Bowers they have a chance.
