For Deion Sanders, it’s not just about football anymore. It’s about defending Miss Peggy’s house, and honoring 101 years of Colorado pride.

Deion Sanders didn’t need stats or schemes to make his point Tuesday, he just needed to say one name.
“Everybody wants to protect the home field,” Sanders said. “I want to protect my crib. That’s what a man’s job is, isn’t it? You protect your house, especially if you’ve got a woman in it. You want to protect the crib. That’s what we do. And this is Peggy’s crib. We’re losing in front of Miss Peggy. I don’t like that by any means.”
That “Miss Peggy” is Peggy Coppom, the beloved Colorado superfan who turns 101 next month and has become a living symbol of the program’s heart. Sanders looked into the cameras and delivered his message straight to her. “God bless you, Peggy,” he said. “I know you’ve been reaching out to me. I love you and appreciate you. You’re the best Buff fan in the world.”

It was vintage Deion, passionate, personal, and perfectly timed. The Buffaloes have lost two straight at home, but their coach believes the turnaround is close. “We’re not a bad football team,” Sanders said. “I’m not saying we’re great, but we’re better than we’re playing. We’re close. Not binoculars close, touch-it close.”
He urged fans to pack Folsom Field against ranked Iowa State. “We need a full stadium,” he said. “You guys are the best fans in the country. You support us even though we’re not playing up to expectations, and I thank you for that.”
