The clock is ticking on John Cena‘s WWE retirement tour, and JBL believes this RAW Superstar can handle the pressure of his final match.
“The Never Seen Seventeen” will walk down the ramp for his final match on December 13, when WWE presents Saturday Night’s Main Event from Washington, D.C. Recent reports suggest WWE has finalized the person who will deliver the ultimate send-off to John Cena.
For those who don’t wish to click the link, Cena’s final opponent is reportedly none other than former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. “The Ring General” has been absent from WWE television since SummerSlam, where he dropped the world title to CM Punk.
With SNME still a few months away, fans can expect Triple H to take his time in planning the “unforgettable send-off” for John Cena. As for Gunther, the former World Champion already seems to be getting major endorsement from a WWE Hall of Famer for reportedly being the final boss to Cena’s ultimate good-guy character.
JBL Endorses Gunther as John Cena’s Final WWE Opponent
Speaking on the Something to Wrestle With podcast, JBL praised Gunther as the perfect choice to face John Cena in his farewell match.
“Yes, you need somebody that can carry what he’s going to be given — being that last match — whether he goes over or not,” JBL said. “That is a huge honor to be Cena’s last opponent. And you’re going to have a lot of equity from Cena transferred into that opponent.
“If Gunther is the guy, Gunther can carry it. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. That guy is a freaking worker. He’s a great worker. He has a great presence about him. He’s a terrific heel. I think Gunther will be able to do a lot with it, not just have a good match.” [H/T: WrestlingNews.co]
Gunther previously retired Goldberg on an earlier edition of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. Fans will have to wait and see until an official announcement confirms the matchup.
