PITTSBURGH, Pa. (BLACK AND GOLD NATION) – The Pittsburgh Steelers know they will have their hands full with Cleveland Browns star edge rusher Myles Garrett on Sunday.
“He’s a game wrecker,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said. “We’re highly familiar with him.”
In 14 games against the Steelers, the former Defensive Player of the Year has 13 sacks. It’ll be a big test for left tackle Broderick Jones, who has allowed zero sacks over the past two games after giving up four in the first two weeks.
Tomlin knows it’s redundant to let Jones know what kind of player he’s up against.
“Broderick is not a dummy. I think he realizes who he’s working with this week,” Tomlin added. “He’s a competitor and a professional. I haven’t spent any time thinking about how I’m going to talk to or motivate Broderick this week.”
The Steelers plan to exhaust all avenues to help Jones slow down Garrett and his pass-rushing prowess. Tomlin alluded to having the offensive line slide in pass protection to Garrett’s side as well as chipping him with tight ends or running backs.

“We’re going to deploy all the schematics that most people do trying to minimize a guy like him,” Tomlin said. “This guy has 100 or so career sacks with people (scheming ways to neutralize him), and yet he still gets home. That’s why he is who he is.”
Aaron Rodgers’ quick release can also help limit Garrett’s impact as well. In the win against Minnesota, Rodgers recorded an average time to throw of 2.17 seconds, his quickest average time to throw in a game since 2016.
