SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The college basketball season is right around the corner. The Summit League hosted their annual basketball media day on Tuesday.
The SDSU women graduated four players from last year, including standout guard Paige Meyer. However, the Jacks return many players, including Preseason Player of the Year Brooklyn Meyer.
The SDSU men have some shoes to fill as well. Oscar Cluff transferred to Purdue, but the Jackrabbits still bring back some talent as both teams are eager for the season.
“It’s always the best time of year and you work so hard all offseason, just for the moments that you get to go out and get to show what you’ve been working so hard for,” Madison Mathiowetz said.
“You get used to playing all the games and all the practices, but you really remember all the relationship and the little memories where you’re at the hotel or your traveling together,” Matthew Mors said.
The SDSU men open the season with an exhibition against Mayville State on October 29. The women host Augustana that night as well.
USD is also gearing up for the season. The Coyote women return just two players, meaning they’ve got 13 new faces and a lot of turnover in Vermillion.
The USD men return a solid group, after they graduated six from last season. They also brought in some talent from the transfer portal, creating some excitement for the new season.
“We’re very excited, I mean every day in practice it’s competitive. We’re ready to go and we’re showing that we’re ready to go,” Patience Williams said. “We’re showing coach and proving to ourselves that we’re ready to go. So, I feel like our first game, we’ve got three home games back-to-back, so it’s going to be great.”
“We graduated six seniors last year, so we’ve got a lot of new faces for the fans and stuff. I’m the team so far, super, super confident about them,” Isaac Bruns said. “Just looking forward to getting back on the hardwood.”
The USD women meet Colorado State in an exhibition on October 18, while the men host Utah Tech on November 3.
