Arsenal’s William Saliba: ‘The trophies will come quickly.’

Last week, William Saliba (24) extended his contract at Arsenal. The Frenchman joined the Gunners back in 2019 and is now tied to the Premier League club until the summer of 2030. In a press conference on Wednesday, he set out his ambitions.

Saliba joined Arsenal in 2019 but first had loan spells at formative club AS Saint-Étienne, and then OGC Nice and Olympique de Marseille. For the past two seasons, he has been imperious at the back and a staple in Mikel Arteta’s team selection.

However, whilst the Spanish manager has since made Arsenal contenders at the top of the Premier League once again, the club have not won a major trophy since winning the FA Cup back in 2020. Saliba sees that changing soon.

I’m lacking trophies but they will come quickly because we have a good manager and a good squad,” said the Frenchman, who is preparing to represent Les Bleus in their upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Iceland.

On his decision to commit to Arsenal, he added, “I wanted to continue at Arsenal because I feel at home there […] I wanted to settle there in the long term.”
