Lazio are reportedly willing to consider the sale of Taty Castellanos in January in order to finance some mid-season reinforcements.

The Background

The Biancocelesti received offers for some of their top stars last summer, but Claudio Lotito and Angelo Fabiani insisted on keeping the squad virtually intact after being slapped with a transfer ban that prevented them from making any signings. Therefore, Castellanos’ future was never a topic of discussion at Formello in the summer, despite receiving several enquiries.

Nottingham Forest, Everton & More Enquired About Taty Castellanos

According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Villarreal, Real Betis, Nottingham Forest, Everton, Burnley, West Ham, and Wolverhampton Wanderers have also expressed their interest in the Argentine striker. But while the Italian capital side closed the door to all attempts in the summer, the situation could drastically differ in January.

Lazio are expected to lift the ban in the coming months after presenting their latest financial report to the new supervisory committee that will replace COVISOC. They will likely be allowed to make new signings, as long as their new purchases don’t exceed their sales. Hence, the club would only be able to buy new players after selling some of their own.

Lazio Name Their Price for Castellanos

Therefore, the Roman-based newspaper claims that the Aquile would be open to selling Castellanos for a transfer fee worth €30-35 million, as it would allow them to pull off some of the signings that Maurizio Sarri requested in the summer.

Castellanos Wasn’t Excited About Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio Return

Speaking of the 66-year-old manager, the same source adds that Castellanos wasn’t too happy with his return to the club, as he had struggled for playing time during the eight months he spent under his tutelage in the 2023/24 season. Back then, the Italian manager often started club legend, Ciro Immobile, at the Argentine’s expense.

However, the 27-year-old has now become Sarri’s first choice. Except for the Derby della Capitale defeat to Roma, Castellanos has always been in the Starting XI this season. He has thus far contributed with two goals and three assists in six Serie A appearances
