The reason Chelsea didn’t sign a new goalkeeper this summer has been revealed, and it’s not because of Robert Sanchez.
The Blues number stopper has come under a lot of criticism during his time at the club and I think the majority of Chelsea fans would have been happy to see him sold in the summer. But since then, he has been enjoying some much better form and played a big part in the Club World Cup triumph in the summer too after a stronger end to the season for the stopper.

But in the summer, Chelsea were linked with wanting to sign a new goalkeeper but in the end they didn’t get one in. Many thought this was to do with Sanchez playing better and the club deciding to put all their faith in him.
However, there is another reason, that is at least according to The Daily Mail this week.
Big Penders plans

It seems that Chelsea have big plans and a lot of belief in goalkeeper Mike Penders, who is currently out on loan with Strasbourg this season playing in Ligue 1.
The report claims that Penders is a big reason as to why there wasn’t a goalkeeper signing for Chelsea in summer and won’t be one any time soon. It also says that Chelsea will evaluate the goalkeeper situation next summer.
Penders does look very good, but it’s a very risky strategy from Chelsea and they will very much need it to pay off and hope Penders is fully ready when he comes in.
