Artem Dovbyk made a surprising confession about the one thing he regrets after missing two penalties in Roma’s Europa League defeat to Lille.
The extraordinary match happened a week ago at the Stadio Olimpico, piling frustration upon the Giallorossi players and supporters.
They had the opportunity to equalise in the final 10 minutes when Mandi handled the ball, as spotted by VAR.
However, Dovbyk twice stepped up to see his penalty parried by the goalkeeper Berke Ozer, twice it had to be retaken anyway due to encroachment.
At the third time of asking, Roma switched takers and handed the ball to Matias Soulé, who was also denied by Ozer.
Dovbyk regrets are not what Roma expected

“That was a really unpleasant moment of my career, the first at this level,” Dovbyk told reporters while on international duty with Ukraine.
“The team was very supportive and the day after we didn’t talk about the fact that we failed to convert the penalty three times, but instead analysed the overall flow of the game.
“It was a difficult match, and we did not play at our standards.”

When asked if he had any regrets about that, the response from Dovbyk was somewhat surprising.
“I analysed those penalties, and my only regret is that I didn’t take the third penalty, honestly. That is the one thing that I feel bad about.”
Roma’s strikers have struggled to deliver so far this season in all competition, but a solid defence has helped them top the Serie A table alongside Napoli.
