The may be flirting with the idea of moving one of their top defensive players at the trade deadline — pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. While he's been playing well this season and may have salvaged his spot on the roster after some inconsistent years, there's still debate about whether the Giants should capitalize on his rising value.

“There’s an argument to be made that because he’s playing well, the Giants should capitalize on his trade value. It’s a sound argument. New York could probably get at least a second-round pick or a starting-caliber player for Thibs. That’s not nothing,” GMENHQ’s Matt Sidney wrote.

Thibodeaux’s long-term future in New York was first called into question when the Giants selected Abdul Carter in the first round of last year’s NFL Draft. When a team drafts a player at your position, it’s rarely a great sign. However, the Giants appear somewhat committed to making the duo work.

“The New York Giants have exercised their fifth-year option on outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux, keeping him under contract with the team through the 2026 season. Giants general manager Joe Schoen announced the news after selecting Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday,” Bleacher Report’s Paul Kasabian wrote.

Still, in a proposed trade scenario, Thibodeaux has been linked to teams like the and — both looking to boost their pass rush.

“The offense, and Jaxson Dart, struggled with Nabers out of the lineup in Week 5. Trading pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux might just help New York land a pass-catcher. The 24-year-old was the fifth overall pick in the 2022 draft, but New York has since added Brian Burns and rookie Abdul Carter, who are now its top two sack artists. However, Thibodeaux should still bring a premium return. He's still young, has logged 2.5 sacks and eight QB pressures this season and is under contract on a rookie deal for two more seasons. Potential Suitors: San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers,” Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wrote.

The 49ers are in desperate need of edge help, especially after losing Nick Bosa, which has taken a clear toll on their defense. Adding Thibodeaux would be a major win for San Francisco's defensive front.

For the Buccaneers, pairing Thibodeaux alongside Vita Vea would present a nightmare for opposing offenses. It could also give them a needed boost in their race to reclaim the NFC South crown.
