A pair of old Steel Valley foes kick off week eight on WKBN's High School Football Game of the Week as Mooney invades Harding.
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – For the sports fan of the Youngstown-Warren area, there aren’t many football programs that you can think of that have the tradition of Cardinal Mooney and Warren Harding.
These two old Steel Valley foes begin week eight of the high school football season on WKBN’s Game of the Week.

Game Notes
–Since Mooney’s 15-14 win in 2017, Harding has won six of the past 7 outings with its former conference foe.
-Since Sept. 29, 2023 – Mooney is 1-10 in road games. The team’s only win during that stretch came in this year’s season opener at Lake Catholic (30-13).
-Last year, Mooney scored 165 points in 11 games. This year (through seven games), the Cardinals have topped that mark already with 167 points.
HS Football Landscape: Contenders
-Kingston Powell caught a touchdown pass from Vince Gentile in the opening half that proved to be the difference as Mooney won its third consecutive game, 10-7, over Chaney last Friday.
-Harding’s defense has been up to the task by holding three opponents (all victories versus Buchtel, St. Vincent-St. Mary, McDowell) to a total of 21 points.
-When the Raiders score 26 or more points, they’ve won their last eight games. When the Raiders held their opponents to 20-points or less, Harding was 11-0 since October 2023, before last week’s loss to Boardman (14-10).
-Boardman’s Ryan Smith powered his way into the end zone twice to push the Spartans past Harding, 14-10, from Mollenkopf Stadium this past Friday. The Raiders’ two-game winning streak was snapped.
