Earlier this week, we shared game predictions based on the Massey Ratings for the 10 biggest high school football games of the weekend. Today, Rivals national high school sports reporter Andy Villamarzo makes his picks:
No. 12 DeMatha Catholic (Md.) at Good Counsel (Md.)
When: Friday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m. ET
Where: Dancel Field, Olney, Maryland
The top game out of the DMV goes down between No. 12 nationally ranked DeMatha Catholic (5-0) and Good Counsel (4-2) square off in Olney. The Stags in the last three weeks have been dominant, out-scoring opponents 128-13 and will need to slow down a Falcons’ offense that’s averaging 16.6 points per game. Good Counsel quarterback Jackson Rice has been solid, throwing for 689 yards and six touchdowns.
Prediction: DeMatha Catholic 35, Good Counsel 16
St. Joseph’s Prep School (Pa.) at Roman Catholic (Pa.)
When: Friday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m. PT
Where: Leslie C. Quick Stadium, Chester, Pennsylvania
It has been a disappointing season thus far for the St. Joseph’s Prep School Hawks (2-4) and it continued last week in a a 31-20 loss to La Salle College. The Hawks hope to bounce back against one of the state’s top teams in Roman Catholic (4-2), which defeated La Salle College a couple weeks ago, 39-36. Akron three-star quarterback commit Semaj Beals will be the player to watch for Cahillite, throwing for 1,451 yards, 18 touchdowns and one interception.
Prediction: Roman Catholic 32, St. Joseph’s Prep 21
Gainesville (Ga.) vs. No. 22 Milton (Ga.)
When: Friday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET
Where: Eagle Stadium, Milton, Ga.
In last year’s edition of Gainesville (6-1) versus No. 22 Milton (6-1) ended in a 42-24 victory for the Eagles. In the last three games for Milton, the Eagles have dominated and out-scored opponents 124-7. Junior linebacker Blaize Battaglia leads the Eagles in tackles with 65 stops and six going for a loss. Prediction: Milton 40, Gainesville 28
Fishers (Ind.) at Westfield (Ind.)
When: Friday, Oct. 10, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Riverview Health Stadium, Westfield, Indiana
When the Shamrocks and Tigers meet on Friday night, it’ll be a battle between two of Indiana’s top high school football teams. Westfield (5-2) is coming off a strong outing from last week in a 38-21 romp over Avon. Westfield will lean heavily on their offensive front, led by Division I commits Malachi Mills (Kansas) and Job Maverick (Ohio). This game will be won at the line of scrimmage and the Shamrocks have the overall edge in that department.
Prediction: Westfield 30, Fishers 20
DeSoto (TX) at No. 25 Duncanville (TX)
When: Friday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. ET
Where: Panther Stadium, Duncanville, TX
Last year’s meeting between the DeSoto Eagles (3-2) and Duncanville Panthers (2-1) ended with the latter coming away with a 42-20 victory. After a slow start to the season, the Eagles have been impressive last couple of weeks in which they’ve out-scored their opponents 184-24. Last time Duncanville took the field was a 50-3 romp of a winless Skyline on Sep. 26. What is usually billed as the Game of the Year out of the Lone Star State, a little bit of air has been taken out because of some losses
Prediction: DeSoto 48, Duncanville 45
Harper Woods (Mich.) at Saline (Mich.)
When: Friday, Oct. 10, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Horn Stadium, Saline, Michigan
Taking center stage in Michigan high school football between Harper Woods (6-0) and Saline (6-0) on Friday night. The Pioneers have one of the best wide receiving corps in the state, led by a pair of four-stars in junior Dakota Guerrant and sophomore Deandre Bidden. On the other side of the spectrum is the Hornets, which feature Miami (Ohio) commit Tommy Carr, who recently threw for over 500 yards and accounted for nine touchdowns. If there’s one thing for certain, this game is sure to be high scoring between the two talented offenses.
Prediction: Saline 42, Harper Woods 35
Hillcrest (Ala.) at Thompson (Ala.)
When: Friday, Oct. 10, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Warrior Stadium, Alabaster, Ala.
There’s arguably no better game out of the Yellowhammer State when the Hillcrest Patriots (5-2) and Thompson Warriors (5-2), with the latter being Alabama’s defending Class 7A state champions, clash in Alabaster. Thompson junior four-star quarterback Trent Seaborn has already thrown for 1,844 yards and 18 touchdowns this season. The Warriors soundly defeated the Patriots in a 45-20 victory in 2024.
Prediction: Thompson 27, Hillcrest 14
Mustang (OK) at Jenks (OK)
When: Friday, Oct. 10, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Allan Trimble Stadium, Jenks, Oklahoma
Two high-scoring Oklahoma high school football teams go head-to-head Friday night when the Mustang Broncos travel over to face the Jenks Trojans. Florida State four-star quarterback commit Jaden O’Neal leads a potent Broncos’ offensive attack as the senior has thrown for 740 yards and nine touchdowns this fall. O’Neal will be countered by a Trojans’ offense that features junior four-star offensive tackle Odaefe Oruru and senior three-star running back Kaydin Jones. Points will be at a premium when all zeros hit the scoreboard Friday night in Jenks.
Prediction: Jenks 41, Mustang 31
No. 6 Mater Dei (Calif.) at No. 17 Santa Margarita Catholic (Calif.)
When: Saturday, Oct. 10 at 10 p.m. ET
Where: Saddleback College Stadium, Mission Viejo, Calif.
Does it matter where No. 6 Mater Dei (6-1) travels to at this point? The Monarchs have been to multiple other states and won and this Friday night have another difficult road test when theytake on No. 17 Santa Margarita Catholic (5-2). The Monarchs will need their offensive star power to get involved early in the game, with players like five-star tight end Mark Bowman (USC commit), five-star wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. (Ohio State commit) and three-star quarterback Ryan Hopkins (Wisconsin). On the Eagles’ end of the spectrum, Santa Margarita has done a nice job defensively this season holding teams like Mission Viejo and Bishop Gorman to a combined 21 points, which both were losses for Carson Palmer’s bunch.
Prediction: Mater Dei 23, Santa Margarita Catholic 6
No. 25 Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) at St. Joseph Regional (N.J.)
When: Saturday, Oct. 11, 1 p.m. ET
Where: Dinallo Stadium, Montvale, N.J.
The No. 25 nationally ranked Don Bosco Prep Ironmen (5-0) and St. Joseph Regional (4-1) matchup this Saturday is the best game out of the Northeast bar none. The Ironmen looked nowhere near slowing down in last week’s 47-15 thrashing of DePaul Catholic. St. Joseph Regional team is coming off their first loss of the season to St. Peter’s Prep, which was decided by one point in a 29-28 decision. This game could honestly come down to one possession or be a 20-point blowout. It really could go either way, in Don Bosco Prep’s favor, anyways.
Prediction: Don Bosco Prep 35, St. Joseph Regional 14
