Abdual-Carter Foreman's growing confidence helping Sexton football build momentum

Latest LSJ high school athlete of week winner helped J-Dubbs to their third win in four games.

Abdual-Carter Foreman spent the early stages of the football season putting too much pressure on himself.

And the Sexton junior quarterback's confidence wavered.

"I would say I wasn't playing football and I was thinking too much," Foreman said.

But that pressure has eased up and Foreman is now playing at a high level. Foreman, who was voted the latest LSJ boys high school athlete of week winner, has shined in recent weeks while being part of a two-quarterback system alongside Zion Mathis for the J-Dubbs.

Foreman helped Sexton (3-3) to its third win in four games with its Week 6 victory over Lakewood that featured him throwing for 196 yards and three touchdowns.

"(The confidence) has been there, it's just kind of coming back," said Foreman, who has thrown seven touchdown passes the last three weeks. "I don't really know. It's coming back. It fell off a little bit, but I kind of locked in and really started trusting my receivers and we've just been connecting."

Foreman entered the J-Dubbs' Week 7 game against Ionia having thrown for 672 yards and 10 touchdowns and also had a rushing score.

First-year Sexton coach Willie Dillard said Foreman has done a better job at commanding the huddle in recent weeks.

"He's just getting more confident and getting more comfortable and he's just being better with his decision making," Dillard said. "He's getting the ball out of his hand and getting the ball to our playmakers."

Foreman hopes Sexton can build on its recent success and finish the regular season strong.

"I just want to keep winning games and our team to keep having positive wins and just build our confidence going into the playoffs and win out for the rest of the season," Foreman said.
