Five weeks into an intriguing NFL season and there is no mystery about whether these teams will make the postseason.
The NFL season heads toward Week 6. It is already late for some teams that have shown a lack of ability to win, let alone contend for a playoff spot. What teams should be focusing on the 2026 NFL draft after their poor play in the first quarter-plus of the season? There are some, like the Ravens, who have a poor mark but are still favored to win their division at 1-4 in betting circles. I'm not going to throw them into this pool of teams… yet.
Miami Dolphins
The Fish need to be disposed of after the way they have played. Way beyond any hopes of being fresh and there seems to be a non-stop buzz about Mike McDaniel while suggesting GM Chris Grier could still keep his position. How and why?
New York Jets
There was so much happiness going around when the Jets hired Aaron Glenn. The problem is the same joy is spread every time any New York team hires a coach or manager. Borderlines foolish. Why address reality when one can try and curry favor with the new boss in town?
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders brought Geno Smith together with Pete Carroll in Sin City. It has flopped big time. This act wouldn't play in the lounge of most casinos in Las Vegas.
Cincinnati Bengals
Hard to believe but a team that is only 2-3 looks like it has no chance to contend for a wild card berth let alone the AFC North. The latest gasp was to pull a trade with the other Ohio team in the state and division for Joe Flacco. Don't expect this Joe to provide the spark the injured Joe (Burrow) brings to Cincinnati.
Cleveland Browns
They benched their veteran QB and trade him within the division. That doesn't sound like a team with hopes for making a playoff run. Now, the Browns are in the precarious position of having to hope Dillon Gabriel stays upright so they don't have to choose between Shedeur Sanders and Bailey Zappe. If they went with the latter, the screams could be heard all the way from Boulder.
Tennessee Titans
It took a series of miracles for them to win a game. They have run out of them.
New York Giants
At least the Giant brass will get a good look at what they have in Jaxson Dart. Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston can just get older on the sidelines unless some team is desperate at the trade deadline.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers are too inconsistent to have a chance for a playoff spot. They played great in a win over the middling Falcons. They managed to outmaneuver the futile Fish after falling behind. Highly unlikely this team will get enough wins to earn wild-card consideration.
New Orleans Saints
The lone win came against the New York Giants, which speaks volumes about how bad both franchises are. Kellen Moore doesn't have to worry about job security since this is his first season.
